What You Need To Know When Selling Your Software

If you have redundant Microsoft software licences that are sitting around doing nothing for your business, one of the best options available to you is to sell them. Doing so allows you to release your invested capital back into your business, presenting you with the opportunity to reinvest that money where it is really needed. Many Discount Licensing clients redirect the funds raised from selling Microsoft software licences into other IT projects.

Discount Licensing purchase perpetual Microsoft volume software licences that originally came onto the market within Europe. All software licences are fully compliant with the European Software Directive 2009/24/EC. You can find out more detailed information at our FAQs page, but here's all you need to know about selling your Microsoft software.

How Do I Know If I Have Redundant Microsoft Software Licences?

If your organisation uses or have used perpetual Microsoft Volume software licences then it is likely that they will have surplus licences available to sell. If you have moved to a new agreement, migrated to Office 365 or experienced an acquisition or merger then the likelihood of surplus software increases. If you are not certain what you have, Discount Licensing can offer support in identifying any valid perpetual Microsoft software licences you have entitlement to. Or if you prefer, we can recommend Independent Software Asset Managers that can assist you with a base line.

Once surplus Microsoft volume software licences have been identified the process to sell your surplus software couldn’t be simpler and follows the process shown below:

  • Offer: We will send an indicative purchase offer to buy the surplus software.
  • Acceptance: If you like the offer we have made and would like to accept it just confirm your acceptance in writing or via email.

Upon your acceptance, and if not already completed, Discount-Licensing will begin the due diligence process. This includes checks on the licence editions, versions, quantities and transferability to name a few.

  • Purchase order confirmation: Once all checks have been made and the licences have been proved valid, we will send you a Purchase Order Confirmation which details the software licences purchased. This is accompanied by all documents required to satisfy the legal transfer of the licences.
  • Payment: Payment is made once all the necessary documentation has been received and verified.

When you sell your software to Discount Licensing, you get a trustworthy and traceable transaction that will legitimately transfer your redundant software in a secure way, and at a fair price. All information is confidential (NDAs available) and GDPR compliant.

We pride ourselves on only selling what our customers need, rather than what the vendor tells you to buy. Microsoft will only sell you the most recent release, but we can provide you with whichever version or edition that you’re looking for. From legacy versions to the very latest release, we stock a range of Application and Server software to meet all your business requirements.
